Walking into this little green oasis in the Bronx was quite the experience! I felt so great and couldn’t stop smiling…:) As someone who had a very urban upbringing, I know how difficult it can sometimes be to find a green space for families. My first encounter with The Bronx Sauce was very serendipitous but I couldn’t help but think that it was all meant to be. You see when you are walking down the aisles of Whole Foods you sometimes don’t realize where exactly your food is coming from or what impact it might be having in our communities. The Bronx Sauce is made with Serrano peppers that are grown in Bronx community gardens. The seeds are donated to GrowNYC  (a non-profit organization that manages many of the community gardens and farmers markets in NYC) which they then distribute to different local gardens and are then repurchased from the gardeners in the spring to make the sauce. This hot sauce is helping rebuild impoverished communities in the Bronx and beyond. I bet you didn’t think a hot sauce could have such a great impact…right?! 🙂

The sauce can be found at 100 different NYC outlets and grocers, including Whole Foods, Foragers and the Union Square Greenmarket at Managers Tent. For more information, please go here.
