This is the last and final guide and I must admit that it was very hard to leave this town. I know I’ve said it about the other towns but I completely fell in love with Trinidad. It’s charming and if you think Havana is old then you are in for a treat! As soon as you arrive to the square, you will start asking yourself how you didn’t come sooner ( well, if you are American….we all know the answer to that question!). Trinidad was built in the 19th century and still feels and looks like time stood still. We stayed two days but it wasn’t enough – I needed more days to take more strolls, drink more coffee and sit and talk to the locals.

Hope you’ve all enjoyed my guides!! Let me now if you have any questions.

EAT:

La Botija: we were walking around and bumped into this restaurant not realizing that it was a favorite place for locals and tourist to eat and hang! The food is soooo yummy and the band was probably the best band I heard during our entire trip. By the time we left, the line to get in looped around the corner! Definitely add this gem of a place to your list.

Cafe Don Pepe: this coffee spot is legit! The most extensive coffee menu I’ve ever seen and you get to sip it in a beautiful, shaded courtyard!

El Dorado: touristy but the service is excellent and the food was great too!

DO:

Stroll Through Plaza Major: ahhhh! This is the center of the town ( also a UNESCO site) and the most crowded but it’s because you can sit around on the steps leading up the “Casa De La Musica” (Music House) to listen to old cuban tunes. Btw – this area is also the only area you can get wifi in the entire town…all you have to do is buy a card for 5 CUC and you’re good to go!

Playa Ancon: this beach is beautiful and it’s only a 10-15min drive from the main town. Cuba really does have it all –  gorgeous old colonial towns and beaches! 🙂

Go Dancing: Disco Ayala is literally inside of a cave! We didn’t want to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity SO we waited in line for an hour and that only happened because we showed up too early – so get there a few minutes before 11PM so that you can get online and be able to grab a table once you get inside.

Visit the Sugar Plantations – we didn’t do this but you should because most of the towns history and wealth was due to the 56 sugar mills in the area.

Thanks so much for all the tips- I appreciate your detailed 3 part guide as most people talk only about havana. Also love that you didnt focus on the typical touristy stuff for those that crave a local experience! I thought I could visit cuba for a long weekend but based on your guide, I might have to extend it to a few more days!

Thank you so so much for this. I am planning my itinerary for my April trip to Cuba, and only planned one day for Trinidad. But you really loved it??! Maybe I should spend two. From what I read on trip advisor, there just isn’t much to do. Also, how many days where you in Cuba in all? I have 12 days total, it seems too long to explore the western side, but way too short to explore all of Cuba. Thanks for the insight! Love all three blog posts and the pictures!!!
