I Found The Best Fresh Pasta In Brooklyn

Before I tell you about this amazing little pasta shop in a random street of Park Slope, Brooklyn, I want to tell you why I’m featuring it. My goal is to provide you with travel inspirations through guides, local stories, fashion, and food. Can’t make it to Italy anytime soon?! Well, then you shouldn’t have to wait for that epic trip to taste the really good pasta. That’s really it. Food has the ability to transport us to areas we have yet to visit or bring us nostalgic memories of our favorite trips. I hope that these food features create a sense of wanderlust curiosity and that while most of us can’t always pick up and travel all the time, we all can certainly enjoy an authentic meal that brings us joy.

Now back to pasta! I wish I can say that I bumped into this spot during one of my strolls in Brooklyn but I didn’t.  I actually have to give the credit to Edible Brooklyn for featuring them on the cover of their magazine some time ago. Un Posto Italiano was born out of love for family, tradition, and food. Antonio Capone is the owner of this pasta shop where he hand rolls the pasta every morning – that’s right, what you buy is LITERALLY what he freshly rolled up early that morning with Italian and local ingredients. Antonio’s pasta making skills can be accredited to his grandfather whom in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, was a pasta maker in Abruzzo, Italy.  Abruzzo is in central Italy (about an hour away from Rome) and it’s natural beauty and diverse landscape is said to be very different than any other part of Italy. Abruzzo has some of the highest quality pasta in all of Italy due to the regions quality durum wheat production and crystalline spring water. Antonio uses the same pasta-making tool used in Abruzzo for centuries to make the pasta here in Brooklyn – the tool is called Chitarra.

The shop is tiny which makes it feel all that more special – the moment you walk in you are in the open kitchen where you see Antonio making the pasta with Italian music in the background. For a minute you start wondering how you ever dared to buy boxed pasta – because there is truly nothing better than to be intentional about your food and to witness the love poured into making it.  I invite you to venture out to Brooklyn and try this incredible pasta, I promise you that it will make you want to book a trip to Abruzzo, Italy. 🙂

La Chittara from the Abruzzi is a magical pasta. My family too, hails from that region! La Chitarra translates to Guitar. The strings create a square long pasta, similar to spaghetti. Traditionally this pasta is served with a ragu of lamb and tomatoes simmered together! Wonderful post!!
