Farewell,New York

I’ve been putting this post off for some time.  After living our entire lives in New York City, we have decided to move to Chicago.  Yes, you read that right…Chicago!  Ah! It feels so good to finally tell you…it honestly felt weird keeping you out of the loop.  So for those who don’t know, both Thomas and I grew up in the city and have been here all our lives (minus the time we went to college in Buffalo which is actually where him and I met) – most of our families and closest friends are here so this decision was a tough one to make. There is no denying that we LOVE New York City (especially Brooklyn) –  it doesn’t rival any other city with its energy, culture, accessibility and an overwhelming amount of things to do.  Living here has exposed me to all kinds of incredible experiences and truth be told, people say New York City toughens you but in a way it softens you to be accepting of how different we all really are. It’s been an honor to grow up here….and a part of me will always know that.

So why are we moving? We are simply at a point in our lives where we want more.  We are not ready to move to the suburbs (don’t think we will ever be ready for that but that’s a whole other topic – haha!) but crave a cleaner and quieter place while still maintaining the benefits of a city life.  We have known for quite some time that deep down we had outgrown New York City but didn’t know what was the right time or place to commit to next until now. Just like anything else in life, the time never seems right and sometimes you just have to make a decision – Thomas and I don’t want to live a life of “what if’s” and just decided to take the plunge! Lucky for us there are def. a few factors that did make our decision easier, for example, we don’t have kids yet which makes it that much easier to uproot our lives – plus it’s not like we are moving too far away – I mean Chicago is still close enough to New York City where visiting family would be easy.

As nostalgic and stressful as this move will be since it’s literally happening in less than two weeks, we are so excited about our new place.  Amenities like having a gym and rooftop pool are hard to come by in NYC so these are things I’m so looking forward to having.  I’m even going to be able to plant my own vegetables in our rooftop garden which is a big deal for this city girl! Haha.

Many of you are probably wondering what this means for Please, Do Tell? Well, things will move as per usual.  It means that in a way you will be moving with us too…you can look forward to receiving a lot of great new content about our new journey – and living these experiences with us. We really can’t wait to share it all.

Thank you once again for your support and letting me be part of your travel memories….it means more to me than you’ll ever know. As we keep growing and evolving, one thing will always stay constant and that is that my purpose is to inspire you and encourage you to travel and be curious about the world around you.

With Love,

Lourdes + Thomas
