One of the most memorable days we had in Lisbon was when we took a day trip to Sintra with Airbnb Experience. For those of you not familiar with it, Airbnb Experience is a platform that offers incredibly cool and personal activities hosted by locals in cities around the world. Experiences allow guests to participate in unique classes, workshops, education sessions and adventures with a host that is an expert at their trade. So we were so excited to get the opportunity of partnering with such a respected company in the travel industry and to experience this unique way of interacting with locals.
As I had previously mentioned in the Lisbon guide, a day-trip to Sintra is a must! Our guide, Goncalo, was raised in Lisbon but would summer with his parents in Sintra so he was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed our tour of Sintra because he took us to places that were not as touristy. For example, instead of visiting Pena Palace which is very popular (and I’m sure it’s amazing!) – we went to Quinta Regaleira, a stunning 20th-century residence with enchanting gardens and secret tunnels with so much history. We walked the charming streets of Sintra and had coffee and treats from one of the oldest bakery’s then drove to the Cabo de Roca which is the westernmost point in Europe! Moving forward, we are going to book Airbnb Experiences wherever we travel because the insight you get from sharing an experience with a local is like no other.
