36 Hours In Milwaukee During The Winter

Milwaukee has been on my radar since we moved to Chicago.  Mainly because it’s so close to us and because last Summer they were featured by Vogue and called “coolest and underrated midwest city”… so I obviously had to and check it out!  Although friends warned us that going in the Summer was probably a better idea, we insisted on going for President’s Day weekend.  Well, it was very cold and we decided to just hang out in the Historic Third Ward neighborhood which is known for being artsy and trendy. It worked out perfectly because this neighborhood had the vibe we were looking for and if you’re traveling during the Winter months than you won’t have to go far for anything.

I didn’t grow up traveling to the Midwest and to be honest, really neglected this part of the country until now.  As you all know, most of the travel features on here are from far away lands but more recently I’ve been intrigued and open to traveling locally because why not?!  I am excited to feature more local underrated cities that are experiencing a revival and totally worth checking out.

Let me know if you have any questions about traveling to Milwaukee – hope you enjoy the guide. xx

STAY

Kimpton The Journeyman Hotel  – This hotel is in the perfect location – I seriously would recommend to ONLY staying here when traveling to Milwaukee.  The Historic Third Ward is known as the creative yet trendy area of the city – here you can find great restaurants, galleries, and shops.  If you don’t feel like going out (it was very cold when we were there) just have dinner at the Tre Rivali which is inside the hotel. One of the amenities that I loved about our room is that you can request DryBar tools for your hair! All you have to do is call the reception desk and they will come up and bring you what you need! I know it’s a very small detail but when I stay in a property those are things that matter most!

 EAT

Sweet Diner –  A great spot for Brunch and only two blocks away from the Kimpton The Journeyman Hotel.

Kickapoo Coffee – Also by the Kimpton, this coffee spot is stylish and good!

Bodegon – We had dinner here and weren’t terribly impressed, however, I would recommend going to the speakeasy downstairs called Mucha Lucha, an underground Mexcal and Tequila bar.  Make sure you click on the link for instructions on how to get in…afterall it’s a speakeasy, they don’t make it easy for you to get in. 🙂

Ardent – An award-winning restaurant nominated several times for James Beard awards. A must if you are looking for an innovative menu yet a local flair.

Cafe Benelux –  Located in the Historic Third Ward, Cafe Benelux serves a great brunch and has the largest selection of beer I’ve ever seen.

DO

Milwaukee Art Museum – Spend a morning at this beautifully designed museum! Growing up in Manhattan has meant that I was always exposed to the best Museums in the world so let’s just say I’m not easily impressed. But I was very pleased with our visit to this museum and highly recommend it.

Milwaukee Ballet – I LOVE the ballet and this would be a great indoor activity during the winter months. Check it out!

Harley-Davidson Museum – Even though we didn’t make it, this was highly recommended and I think a unique experience.
