Coffee + Hugh Jackman

Hi Friends:

Yes, that’s right. Hugh Jackman is in town and has coffee for you.

I’m kidding. Maybe.

Well, his coffee shop is here. Not sure if you will catch him but hey, no hurt in trying. 😉

Laughing Man Coffee Shop was founded by Hugh Jackman as a way to bring local farmers to the market.  A few years ago, he went to Ethiopia with World Vision and met a farmer by the name of Dukale. Dukale was his source of inspiration because he was able to see first hand the limited opportunities for a farmer who produced amazing coffee but yet wasn’t able to show that to the world. So, this inspired Hugh to start this journey for Dukale and other coffee growers in the world that want fair trade price for their coffee.

You know what I love the most about this business model? Well, that as a costumer who walks into the coffee shop, I know for sure that my contribution is going to the Dukale Family. It’s not charity. It’s engrained into the business.

So this is the deal, it’s Monday and you all need a cup of coffee (or several), so go stop by Laughing Man and enjoy an amazing cup of coffee brought to you by Hugh and Dukale. If you can’t make it down to Tribeca then go on the website and read about this awesome coffee shop! I mean, friends, think about it, you might catch Hugh Jackman and are contributing to a great cause while drinking a yummy cappuccino…hello!! I say that sounds like a pretty good Monday.

xoxo,

Lourdes

Movember

movember

Truth be told, I am not a fan of my husband having a bushy moustache but one month out of the year, I make an exception. The annual Movember campaign funds men’s health programs and spreads awareness about issues currently facing males. This is Thomas’ second year committing to this cause and I couldn’t be more proud of his dedication to raise funds for a cause that too many still ignore. Take a moment and think how this cause can have an impact to those close to home like your dad, grandfather, brother, husband, boyfriend, friend, lover…and now do something about it.

Please support my husband Thomas by visiting mobro.co/tmartin81. Thank you in advance for your donations and for supporting such a great cause!

xoxo,

Lourdes

J.Crew: Garments for Good

Hi friends!

Have you stepped into a J.Crew lately? Amongst all the cashmere oversize sweaters, sparkly jewelry and loafers they are carrying a collection of items for local and international charitable organizations. The items are super cute and J.Crew is giving each organization 100% of the net proceeds! Some of the organizations they have partnered with are: DonorsChoose, Teach for America, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, National Park Foundation, Baby Buggy and UNICEF. Along with donations, some J.Crew stores have dedicated shopping nights for charities. So awesome! You should check if your local J.Crew has any events coming up!

Below are some of the J.Crew “garments for good” being sold in stores and online now. 🙂

Eileen Fisher

Have you ever visited Eileen Fisher’s website? If not, do it now {then come back to my post; of course ;)}. What you will find is a fashion company that doesn’t only believe in philanthropy but has deeply weaved social responsibility from manufacturing all the garments she sells to the very core of the company. Eileen Fisher sees ” business as movement” meaning that she drives her company as an agent of change. The company even has a human rights leader in charge of making sure factories abroad are not part of human trafficking. Locally, stores nationwide host fundraising events, book readings and even knitting sessions. Along with all that, Eileen also founded a leadership institute focused on empowering women and girls and a grant program for women entrepreneurs that are themselves agents of change for women and girls.

Honestly, I’m giving you a small glimpse of all the awesome things this company does. I could spend hours writing about how they pick organic cotton for the garments they sell or how they even created a recycling program where the proceeds go to empowering girls. I mean, aren’t they just perfect? Well, maybe not perfect, but they sure do come close…

Now go and browse some of their beautiful garments and shop because now you know that buying from Eileen Fisher won’t only make you look beautiful but will make you feel great that today you contributed to a greater cause.

Below are some of my favorite fall pieces. 😉

Hi!

My my name is Lourdes. I live in Brooklyn with my husband,Thomas. I decided to write a lifestyle blog, because I needed a creative outlet where I could share things that make me happy.

A year ago (or longer) I had an “epiphany” and I found myself wanting to change the career I had planned and dedicated my time to for years and I sat (walked..meditated..spoke to my girlfriends…etc..lol) and did some deep reflection and found that I didn’t have to give up a career in human rights. So I asked myself what could I do with a Masters in Global Affairs and 7 years of retail experience? And so this is how, Please, do Tell, was born. I will write about fashion brands that look beyond just making a profit. These brands have realized that they have a social responsibility to make the world a better place. Nevermind those that say you can’t glam it up and do good at the same time! You definitely can! 🙂

When I am not blogging, I enjoy traveling, working out, trying new restaurants, exploring different coffee-shops, volunteering and reading a good book.
